Local information

The HITRAN Conference will take place at the Smithsonain Astropysical Observatory (SAO) located at the Center for Astrophyiscs | Harvard & Smithsonian (CfA), 60 Garden Street, Cambridge, MA.

The CfA is approximately equidistant between between Porter Square and Harvard Square, and each have MBTA Red Line subway stops for easy access to Boston. Use of the MBTA network requires a CharlieTicket (or CharlieCard), which can be bought in each station. In addition the bus routes 74, 75, and 78 have stops along Concord Avenue, which runs adjacent to the CfA.

Arriving from Logan International Airport

There are a variety of options to get to the CfA from Boston Logan International Airport.

• MBTA/public transport: Access to the MBTA public transport system is free when arriving at the airport. The MBTA Silver Line (a bus) will travel into Boston city center. To get to the CfA, change to the MBTA Red Line (train to Alewife) at South Station. Ride the Red Line until either Harvard Square or Porter Square stops. If exiting at Harvard Square, the 74, 75, and 78 buses will pass by the CfA, otherwise it is approximately a 15 minute walk to the CfA.
• Ride Apps: Pickups arranged through ride apps (e.g., Uber or Lyft), are only permitted from designated pickup locations. Please follow directions in the terminal to the pickup location.
• Taxis: Regular taxis are available at the exit of each terminal.
   

Local restaurants

There a small number of cafes and restaurants located within 5 minutes walk from the CfA, at the junction of Concord Avenue and Huron Avenue. Futher afield, approximately a 15-20 walk, there a number of cafes, restaurants, and bars along Massachusstts Avenue between Harvard Square and Porter Square.

In addition, Harvard Square has a variety of cafes, restaurants, and bars. Many options are also available in downtown Boston, which is only a 20-25 minute journey from Harvard Square or Porter Square using the MBTA Red Line.
